Hi, I'm an N-scale modeler with a love for the Western Maryland Railway. I spent many grade school holidays riding in the cab of WM 102 an Alco S1 the first diesel the Western Maryland operated. My Dad was the engineer, Wow! was I proud.
I started modeling HO
scale as a teen but stopped when I started to move around the country. In 1990
Stephanie (my wife) gave me a Model Power freight set that got me into N-scale
and back in modeling, bless her.
My layout is a 4" x 9' that is a modified design from the #66 layout of
Kalmbach's 101 Track Plans. the bench work is 1" x 4" L girder with
3/8" plywood done in cookie cutter style. I used Atlas flex track with a
variety of different brand switches (a mistake) most with Atlas under the table
switch machines. The scenery is hydrocal which I laid over crumpled up
newspapers and than painted with some tan and green latex paint. Than I glued
Woodland Scenes ground covers over the paint. I am still adding structures and
trees and trees and trees.
Operation is DC with 3 cabs. The layout is a loop-to-loop but can be operated
as two oval and a yard with another oval.
I am a member of the Western
Maryland Railway Historical Society, click on the logo below to go to their
